Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies
The Liberal Studies Program blends coursework in the traditional liberal arts with contemporary and pragmatic classes and learning experiences. The program prepares students for graduate studies and many different careers, such as business, law, humanities, service and more.
Students in the Liberal Studies Program do a lot more than just take classes. They are required to complete an international experience, an internship and a community service project. This equips them to be thinkers and doers in their spiritual lives, as citizens and as future leaders of companies and organizations.
All graduating students receive a degree in Liberal Studies but also have the option of choosing one of six concentrations:
American History
Business (and Economics)
Literature
Prelaw
Psychology
Theology
A concentration allows students to emphasize a course of study they have a particular interest in. A concentration is not a major or a minor, but it is reflected in a graduate’s degree.
International Experience
Students can choose to travel to Ghana or Peru to meet the international experience requirement. They spend two to three weeks, not as tourists, but as guests of the local people, gaining insight into the culture. All major costs of the international experience are covered in the cost of tuition.
Internship
Assistance obtaining an internship is provided through the Lilly Career Development Center. Students meet with the center’s director and find an internship in a career that interests them.
Community Service
In keeping with the spirit of outreach embraced by the Brothers of Holy Cross, students complete a service-learning course and participate in a community service project at an appropriate site in the United States.
