Qualifying for Aid

Qualifying for many types of aid involves demonstrating need. For a student attending both fall and spring semesters, their Expected Family Contribution as reported by the government is subtracted from the total aid budget for the two semesters together. The difference represents a students need.

Students with Expected Family Contributions closer to zero will qualify for more need-based aid in the form of grants and loans than those with Expected Family Contributions closer to their respective aid budget. However, those students with little or no need can still qualify for unsubsidized Stafford loans and PLUS loans. So, students and families are encouraged to submit an aid application and complete the verification process regardless of income to ensure eligibility for both the Stafford and PLUS loan programs

Use the Expected Family Contribution Calculator to calculate your expected family contribution. If you wish to obtain an unofficial aid estimate from Holy Cross, note the calculator's result, e-mail Admissions along with your name and address so that we may send you an unofficial aid estimate. Note: Estimates are not official awards of aid, and are subject to change upon completion of the application and verification process.
