Gift to Holy Cross College Paves the Way for New Recreation Center
Holy Cross College is pleased to announce that friend of Holy Cross College and former trustee, Robert Pfeil, a resident of South Bend, has made a significant donation toward building a student recreation center on campus. This benefaction will allow the College to break ground on the facility by late spring.
“The Holy Cross College community is humbled, overjoyed and immensely grateful for this generous gift, which provides the foundation for a home for our Saints athletic programs,” says Holy Cross College President Brother Richard Gilman, Ph.D., C.S.C. “Robert formerly presided over the facilities committee of the Board, so he recognized the importance of a new recreation center to compliment the new student housing and academic facilities.”
The center will be named in honor of Robert Pfeil and his late wife, Dorothy. They have been longtime benefactors of the College, having underwritten the lighting for the basketball courts among other projects. They were also granted the Cross of Hope Award by the Brothers of Holy Cross and the College in 2003.
This generous gift to the campaign does not end the fundraising for the project. The College is actively seeking pledges over the next two years to totally secure funding for the building.
The exact amount of the gift will not be released at the request of the benefactor.
