Holy Cross College Offers Internet Awareness Seminar

Many college students spend a lot of time on the Internet. Many are also unaware of the possible dangers they face on the Web, and problems some sites could cause for them in the future. Therefore, Holy Cross College is offering students an informational seminar, “Potential Dangers of the Internet.”

Spyware, phishing, MySpace, YouTube — these are all terms we hear about, but what are they? Students probably think they know, but do they know the effects that careless surfing could have? Pictures on MySpace that conflict with the Holy Cross College code of conduct could cause students to face sanctions and could also alarm future employers. Phishing scams can empty bank accounts.

In an effort to keep students up to date on the latest technology, Holy Cross College is offering the seminar, “Potential Dangers of the Internet.” It will be Wednesday January 31, 2007 in the Driscoll Auditorium.

This is the first of a three part series focusing on “awareness.” The next will discuss multiculturalism and the final seminar will present “life after Holy Cross.”
