Notre Dame, Ind. (March 20, 2019) —Holy Cross College Associate Professor of Psychology Cosette Fox, Ph.D., is on the scientific committee of the 7th International Scientific Conference at the University of Bielsko-Biala in Poland. The conference, focusing on psychology and education, is entitled “Teacher and Student in the Perspective of Social Transformations,” and is part of a conference cycle called “Teacher and Student in the Pedagogical Theory and Practice—Contexts of Changes.”
Fox will speak on “The Relationship between Growth Mindset, Grit and Academic Achievement in Elementary Children” on March 25, 2019. Her paper will discuss the relationship of how children fare academically and how this relates to their passion and perseverance and their perspective of their intelligence. She will also be the guest lecturer for an intensive four-hour class at the University of Bielsko-Biala called “How Much Brain do We Really Need?”
“These kinds of opportunities are so enriching for us as faculty and ultimately for our students,” said Fox. “One of the many things I like about Holy Cross is that the College encourages both local and international collaborations. In 2017, our Dean of Faculty, Dr. David Lutz, hosted on our campus a conference that was a collaboration with the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin in Poland. Drawing faculty from Ukraine, Poland, Kenya, and South Africa, that conference is what led to my collaboration with the University of Bielsko-Biala.”
Holy Cross College, along with the University of Silesia in Katowice, the University of Ostrava, Bond University, University of Hradec Králové, Lviv University, and University of South Bohemia are partners in the conference.
