Meet your new Director of Financial Aid
NOTRE DAME, IN (September 21, 2012) - Holy Cross College officials have recently named Shelly Barnes as its new Director of Financial Aid.
Throughout her professional career, Shelly's passion has been that of helping students succeed in their educational goals. By taking up the calling of financial aid in higher education, Barnes is able to do exactly that - directly making a positive impact on the lives of students who may not have otherwise been able to afford college.
In her new position as Director at Holy Cross, Barnes' 16-plus years of work in all facets of financial aid have prepared her to manage the administration of increasingly complex federal, state, and institutional aid programs. Ms. Barnes brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the college's financial aid office, while she skillfully relates to students, parents, co-workers, and colleagues around the college, making her a very valuable asset in the financial aid department.
The role financial aid and its services play are constantly evolving. Shelly Barnes will work toward strengthening this crucial resource at Holy Cross College. "I'm looking forward to working with a wonderful financial aid staff and getting to know the Holy Cross College faculty, staff, and students," she said. Shelly indicated that she is in a position she's excited to undertake. She looks forward to continuing the good work accomplished during [former Financial Aid Director] Robert Benjamin's tenure and leading a team that wishes to build upon that success.
Barnes is eager to be immersed in a culture that's positive, in which she will have more direct contact with students and their families in a traditional college setting. She is also looking forward to learning more about Holy Cross College's four experiential programs, especially the Global Experience.
Holy Cross College leaders are also happy to have Barnes on board. "We are very pleased that Shelly has decided to join the staff here at Holy Cross College. Shelly believes strongly in our mission and looks forward to assisting students in making the cost of a Holy Cross education understandable and affordable," says Brian Studebaker, Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management.
"Her previous work experience as a financial aid professional, combined with her enthusiasm, positive outlook, and genuine desire to help students and families make Shelly a perfect fit for Holy Cross. The world of financial aid is a very challenging and complicated one, and we are very fortunate to have Shelly leading an excellent financial aid staff," Studebaker went on to say.
Barnes comes to Holy Cross College from Purdue North Central University, where her responsibilities varied from mail clerk, to registration clerk, to Director of Financial Aid Processing and Compliance. Ms. Barnes earned a Bachelor's Degree from Purdue North Central and is currently working to complete a Master's Degree in Business Administration.
Shelly and her husband of over 20 years, Mike, live in Hanna, Indiana. They have three daughters and one granddaughter.
