Distinguished Judge joins Board of Trustees
Holy Cross College is honored to announce the appointment of a new members to the institution’s Board of Trustees: Judge David Dreyer of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Judge David Dreyer bring to our Holy Cross Board a spirit of generous service, complemented by his extensive experience as a board members for a number of service organizations. The Honorable David J. Dreyer serves as a judge on the Marion Superior Court in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Judge Dreyer earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Notre Dame, a master of judicial studies from the University of Nevada-Reno, and his Juris Doctor from the University of Notre Dame Law School.
Prior to being named to the Marion Superior Court in 1997, Judge Dreyer served as Special Counsel to State of Indiana (1995-96), Chief Counsel with the Marion County Prosecutor's Office (1991-94), was an associate attorney with the private law firm of Bayh, Tabbert & Capehart (1986-91) and a staff attorney with Legal Services Organization -- a not-for-profit organization providing representation and advice for low-income persons in civil matters at federal, state, and administrative forums (1980-86).
In addition to serving on the bench, Judge Dreyer is an Associate Faculty member at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis' School of Public and Environmental Affairs. He has also instructed at the Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis (1991-94) and was a fellow with the Reginald Heber Smith Community Lawyer Fellowship Program (1980-82).
Since 2005 Dreyer has contributed as a regular columnist in the Indiana Lawyer, providing a judge's perspective on current issues and the law, and has been published in various law reviews and legal journals.
A committed advocate of public service, Judge Dreyer has served on numerous boards and committees, including of the OK Program of Indiana, Inc. (Director), the Indianapolis Rowing Center (Director), the Rotary Foundation of Indianapolis (Director), Indiana Commission for Community Service, Notre Dame Club of Indianapolis, the Notre Dame Law Association, Catholic Social Services, People's Health Center, the Heartland Pro Bono Council (Chair), and the Notre Dame Legal Aid and Defender Association. He has also been a member of the Kennedy King Memorial Initiative, the NCAA Women's Final Four Host Committee, and the National Conference for State Trial Judges Executive Committee
Dreyer is a founding board member for Child Advocates, Inc. , a nonprofit organization that provides legal representation for children in juvenile and family courts, and the Rotary Club Anti-Violence Committee, a civic club committee that reviews Rotary Foundation grants to public schools for conflict resolution programs.
David Dreyer is a member of the Sagamore Inn of Court (Founding Master Member), American Bar Association, Judicial Division (Litigation Section), Indiana State Bar Association (Litigation Section), Indianapolis Bar Association, Government Lawyers Section (Litigation Section), the Marion County Bar Association, Indiana Judges Association, and Rotary Club of Indianapolis.
Throughout his years of service, Dreyer has presented at numerous conferences and seminars covering such topics as "Civil Trial Issues", "Mortgage Foreclosure Practice Tips", "Dealing With the Media ", "What Civil Judges Want You to Know", "Accident Reconstruction and Experts", "The Trial of Dr. Kevorkian", "A National Symposium On Sentencing - The Judicial Response To Crime", just to name a few.
Judge Dreyer is a resident of Indianapolis, Indiana.
