Center for Global Perspectives Welcomes Rose Kiwanuka

NOTRE DAME, IN (March 24, 2014) The Center for Global Perspectives at Holy Cross College welcomes Rose Kiwanuka, the Country Director for the Palliative Care Association of Uganda, for the viewing of the documentary Okuyamba on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at 6PM in the Driscoll Auditorium.

The documentary follows a small band of palliative care nurses who work tirelessly to ease the pain and suffering of people dying deep in the rural villages of Uganda. Eye opening, heartbreaking, and ultimately inspiring, Okuyamba asks the question, 'Who will care for those left for dead?'

Using powerful interviews with some of Uganda's leading palliative care experts, Okuyamba exposes the viewer to the harsh realities of living with life-limiting illnesses in this small, land-locked, East African country, where a diagnosis of HIV/AIDS or cancer is generally regarded by the recipient as a death sentence. Left without hope, these patients find life in their final days, with the help of Rose and her compassionate palliative care professionals.
