HCC Provides Thanksgiving for 65 Families
Students at Holy Cross College along with the help of the St. Vincent DePaul Society of South Bend, will be selecting 65 families in the Michiana area to receive Thanksgiving baskets. These dinner baskets will include everything to make a traditional family feast. "At $40 per basket, our goal was to exceed $2,400 this year from faculty, parents, alumni, neighbors, and friends," said Kaitlynn Gallaway, president of the Social Concerns Committee (SSC). "People have been very generous this year knowing how hard the recession has been on many local families. We have exceeded our goal by over $1,000," she continued.
This is the 8th year the Social Concerns Committee at Holy Cross has raised money for this special project. The Committee is accepting donations until Monday, November 23, 2009. On Sunday, students will use the money at the local Meijers on Portage Road to purchase turkey, stuffing, yams, cranberry sauce, canned vegetables, dinner rolls and pumpkin pie. Then back at campus on Monday, volunteers will be creating individual family boxes, loading them on the college bus, and then delivering them to all the families on their list.
If you would like to contribute to this project, checks may be made payable to Holy Cross College with Social Concerns noted in the memo.
