HCC Students Are Santa's Helpers

Each year Holy Cross College students play Santa's helpers by raising money to buy toys for the U.S Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. The fundraising activities culminate with a toy shopping spree at Meijer's on Portage Road and then a "Toy Parade" at 9 AM Saturday, December 5th from Holy Cross College to the toy collection point across the street from the college at the WNDU TV studios.

Emily Ford '10 of Mishawaka and Allie Feldt '11 of Fruit Port, MI are leading the toy drive this year. "We have collected money from faculty, friends, and students, but the culmination of our fundraising each year is the auction of donated gifts and services," said Emily Ford, a senior education major. The auction is a fun evening in which the college community fills the auditorium in order to outbid each other on the valuable items on stage. Up for bid are things that range from gift baskets from local merchants, to dates with student athletes, to laundry service from Vice President Tina Holland, to chemistry professor-Dr. Alter's ever-popular rum ball deserts.

Last year the students raised over $1,500 for toy donations in the Michiana area and this year they hope to do even better.
