Transferring to Notre Dame

By virtue of our location adjacent to the University of Notre Dame, our common founding by the Congregation of Holy Cross and the transfer-intent nature of our associate of arts curriculum, we receive many inquiries from students interested in exploring the possibility of transferring to Notre Dame after completing the general education requirements at Holy Cross College. A significant number of our students are successful in transferring to Notre Dame each year and represent the largest group of transfer students at the University. It should be noted, however, that attending Holy Cross College does not guarantee transfer admission to Notre Dame.

The following data depicts HCC to Notre Dame transfer acceptance rates for the past eight years:

HCC to ND Transfer Statistics By College and Class Year

Due to the liberal arts nature of our associate of arts curriculum, the vast majority of our students who transfer to Notre Dame enter the College of Arts and Letters. Very few HCC students, perhaps only one or two each year, transfer to the College of Engineering or the College of Science. Following are Fall HCC to Notre Dame transfer acceptance rates by ND college and class year for the past eight years.

The College of Business no longer admits transfer students from any college or university due to space limitations.

Notre Dame Transfer Requirements for Holy Cross College Students

Holy Cross students who plan to apply for transfer admission to Notre Dame are strongly advised to visit the Web site of the specific undergraduate college to which they wish to apply in order to become familiar with current Notre Dame transfer policies and requirements.

We recommend that you first visit the Notre Dame Admissions introductory site for transfer students at:

Courses offered in the associate of arts curriculum parallel the freshman and sophomore general education curriculum at Notre Dame as well as the vast majority of other four-year institutions in the country. Holy Cross College advisors assist students in selecting courses that are appropriate for transfer to Notre Dame. The minimum cumulative grade point average for consideration is 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale). However, it should be noted that the average for admitted transfer students from Holy Cross College is significantly higher. In addition to specific course requirements, a student must have completed a minimum of 27 semester hours (freshman year) before attempting to transfer to Notre Dame.

Other Colleges and Universities Where Holy Cross College Students Transfer

It is important to emphasize that our students transfer to other outstanding senior institutions throughout the nation such as Indiana University, Purdue University, Ball State University, Boston College, Georgetown, Penn State University, Northwestern University, University of Chicago, Marquette University, Loyola University/Chicago, Michigan State University, University of Michigan, Ohio State University, St. Edward's University (TX), University of Dayton, University of Southern California and many more far too numerous to mention.
