Holy Cross College Receives Grant to Aid Emergency Response

Brother Charles Drevon brings Holy Cross security to the 21st century.

Holy Cross College is more prepared than ever to respond to an emergency on campus, thanks to technology and a grant from the company Alertify. This grant will provide the College with Alertify’s notification services. With Alertify, one person can communicate an important message to thousands of people on a variety of devices such as a cell phone, traditional phone, Blackberry or email account.

This system will take Holy Cross security to a new level. Nearly everyone in the Holy Cross community will be able to be immediately notified in the event of an emergency.

Dr. Tina Holland, vice president of student affairs, is pleased the College will have the helpful technology. “As a small and extremely close-knit community, our campus-wide communication is typically very efficient, even in non-crisis situations. Nevertheless, we would prefer not to depend solely on e-mail, posted notices and word-of-mouth to alert students, faculty and staff of an emergency. Particularly in light of the recent Virginia Tech disaster, Holy Cross College is taking extra measures to ensure the safety of our campus community.”

This is all possible because of Brother Charles Drevon, director of information technology at Holy Cross College. In the wake of the tragedy at Virginia Tech, he began to research emergency response companies.

Alertify caught his eye because they were offering grants to colleges and universities, donating their services at no cost for one year, which will save the College a significant amount of money.
