Holy Cross College Presents ‘Angels Fall’ by Lanford Wilson

On April 14th and 15th , Holy Cross College will be presenting ‘Angels Fall’ by Lanford Wilson in the Driscoll Auditorium. The play will be directed by Jim Robinson, adjunct professor of theater. The cast features students Matthew Fase, Christopher Beachy, and Angela Sturm, as well as other members of the Holy Cross College Community. The cast also includes Community Relations Specialist Kaitlyn Palmer, Assistant Campus Minister Tim Ruggaber, and Director of Student Activities Casey St. Aubin.

Judged that season as the best American play by New York drama critic John Simon when it opened on Broadway January 18th, 1983, ‘Angels Fall’ takes place in a small mission church in a remote part of New Mexico in 1984. The highways and roads are closed due an accident at a nearby nuclear facility. A middle-aged college professor and his young wife find themselves at a church, which provides the only public phone for miles. Here they meet Father Doherty, a clever priest; Don Tabaha, a young, brilliant Navajo doctor; Marion Clay, the widow of a famous regional artist; and ‘Zappy’ Zappala, her lover and semi-famous tennis player.

Initially the group is reserved, but as they wait for the roads to reopen, they begin to examine their own lives in relation to each other and in context of the terrible environmental accident which is unfolding around them. The play conjures up complex emotions in characters as they reflect on the paths of fate which have lead them to this place here and now. “This show takes audiences on a ride from incredibly humorous to explosively dramatic. It is a realistically moving experience” says Jim Robinson, director.

The public is welcome to enjoy an evening of theater and support Holy Cross College in their presentation of ‘Angels Fall’.
