A Tradition of Excellence and Opportunity
Holy Cross College is conducted by the Brothers of the Congregation of Holy Cross and first opened its doors in the fall of 1966 as "Holy Cross Junior College", with its first class consisting of student Brothers. Male students enrolled in the fall of 1967. The College became co-educational in the fall of 1968. A four-year baccalaureate program debuted in the fall of 2003 with an inaugural class of 15 students. Local, national, and international students are enrolled at Holy Cross College, which included students from more than 30 states and 10 foreign countries.
Brother John Driscoll, CSC served as president and dean from the College's founding in 1966 until June 1987. Br. Richard Gilman, CSC, current president, has served in this role since 1992. The name of the College was changed to Holy Cross College effective July 1, 1990. Holy Cross College is a Catholic, residential, institution of higher learning, offering a liberal arts curriculum leading to the following degrees:
- Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies
- Bachelor of Arts in Education
- Bachelor of Arts in Theology
- Associate of Arts
Located just north of the city limits of South Bend, Indiana, Holy Cross College is adjacent to the campuses of the University of Notre Dame and Saint Mary's College. This geographical proximity has the obvious advantage of providing Holy Cross students an association with two major Catholic centers of learning.
