College Success Program

The College Success Program (CSP) is a unique one-year academic support program that has been developed to assist students in the transition from the high school educational experience to the academic demands of collegiate study. It can be particularly effective for the student whose academic record suggests that additional academic preparation and support will enhance the chances of a successful and rewarding college experience.

The College Success Program provides an opportunity for students to develop study skills and to gain much needed academic confidence and success strategies as they prepare to undertake the challenges present in a rigorous college environment. The program will also provide mandatory study groups, mentoring, and campus involvement opportunities.

Major issues addressed by the College Success Program include goal expectation and clarification, time management, listening and note-taking skills unique to the college environment, test taking preparation, critical thinking, interpersonal relations, and in-depth exploration into major and career choices.

Summer Session

Students who decide to participate in the College Success Program commence their program of study during the summer session. The summer preparatory program has proven to be a valuable step toward achieving success during the fall semester and beyond. This summer course of study includes the College Success Seminar, the appropriate level English Composition course, and either a math course or an elective. Students will also be involved in structured study groups.

Fall Semester

Students continue their studies during the fall semester and pursue a twelve to fifteen hour course schedule. Courses include the appropriate level mathematics course, continuation of the CSP Seminar course, and courses selected by the student under careful advisement of the CSP Director. Throughout the fall semester, students will participate in a college mentoring program and continue to receive academic and learning support through seminar meetings, one-on-one meetings with the CSP Director, and structured study groups.
