Third Annual Run for Hope at Holy Cross College

The proceeds from this year’s event will go to the College’s chapter of the Africa Faith and Justice Network (AFJN), which is a Catholic organization aimed at helping African citizens in many ways. The Holy Cross chapter is focused on ending the conflict in the Darfur region of Sudan and aiding the people.

Holy Cross College students, faculty, staff and friends will join together for the third time to “Run for Hope,” and the community is welcomed and encouraged to join. Participants can either compete in a 5K run for $20, or relax a bit and enjoy the 3K “family fun walk” for $10. Both events cost $10 for students from Holy Cross College, Saint Mary’s College and the University of Notre Dame. The cost includes the race and a tee-shirt.

The Run for Hope will be on Saturday, April 28, 2007. The 5K begins at 10:00 a.m. and the walk follows at 10:15 a.m. Both courses will wind around the Holy Cross College campus and surrounding area.

AFJN is a new organization at Holy Cross College, and the president, Jay Dunne ‘07, is eager to help the people of Darfur, a region where he says hundreds of thousands of people have been killed and millions have been displaced.

“It is our goal to help alleviate some of the suffering that our brothers and sisters in Darfur are going through. We are going to use the funds from this Run for Hope to send to St. Joseph’s Church in Nyala, a city in Darfur near a large internally displaced persons (IDP) camp. From there the pastor, Fr. Emmanuel Denima, will use the funds to aid the people in the nearby camp,” says Dunne.
