Following Jesus: Living the Kind of Life He Led (New)

Course covers: The Background — What kind of world did Jesus enter? A quick look at the cultural situation of Jesus: The Greek, Roman, and Jewish experience.
The Kingdom of God: What did this concept mean to Jesus, to the people of His day? What does it call us to do?

The person of Jesus and the Kingdom of God: A close look at the key events in the life of Jesus. What do they signify about Jesus and about us? In all this he showed us how to live.

Following Jesus today: A close look at the Beatitudes to see a portrait of Jesus, how he lived his life, and what He calls us to do.

The Lord’s Prayer: The Christian manifesto. An examination of the Lord’s prayer as a summation of this course, our badge of identification that sums up all that is necessary to be a true follower of Christ.

Questions of Faith for Modern Christians (New)

This class is for people asking question, raising issues, and wanting them to be discussed openly. It is for those who want to know how they arrived at where they are in their thinking and in their practice of their faith. Text we will use is “From Sand to Solid Ground” by Michael Morwood. Suggest reading before class begins is “Tomorrow’s Catholic” by Michael Morwood.

Intermediate Tai Chi

This class will allow students to refine and develop their practice of their Yang style short form, especially as taught by Br. Raymond Papenfuss and Robert VanHorn. Students must be comfortable following along with at least the first ½ of this type of form to sign up for this class. The class will help student deepen their tai chi practice by gaining better balance and lung capacity and cultivating graceful and effortless movements.

Mat Pilates

Pilates consists of about 40 mat exercises designed by Joseph Pilates that are performed lying on your back, side, or front, with some done seated, or on all fours. The mat exercises target the deep abdominal and spine muscles in order to provide core strength. It does not provide a cardiovascular workout. Regular practice of Pilates exercises several times a week can result in improved posture and increased abdominal tone. Pilates exercises will help you develop strength, flexibility, coordination and balance. Bring your own floor mat.

Tai Chi for Arthritis Program (New)

In 1997, Dr. Paul Lam, a family physician and Tai Chi Master, led a team of tai chi and medical specialists to create this unique program. The special feature of Tai Chi Arthritis is that it is easy and enjoyable to learn, bringing with it the many health benefits safely and quickly. Medical studies have shown this program effective and safe to relieve pain and improve quality of life for people with or without arthritis. This class may be just the one for you.

Introduction to Iconography

This class includes a brief history of Byzantine Iconography, a field trip to see Icons at local churches, and then help you create your own Icon in class. We will look at many examples of Icon styles and types then explore Eastern and Western church usage of them. All supplies are included. Don’t miss this exciting and unique class.

Tai Chi

An ancient Body-Mind-Spirit discipline.

Yoga Anyone?

Hataha Yoga .…..to yoke or to join has developed over thousands of years. This all-levels yoga practice will join postures (asanas) and breath (pranayama), allowing practitioners to gain strength, refine balance, and increase flexibility. The focus of this session will be the 8 limbs of yoga, bringing a well-balanced approach to yoga practice.
