College Eligible to Receive $1 Million from Lilly Endowment
Holy Cross College is eligible to receive up to $1 million in matching funds from Lilly Endowment through the Endowment’s Initiative to Strengthen Philanthropy for Indiana Higher Education Institutions — Phase II.
The second phase is designed to build on the momentum of companion initiatives offered by the Endowment in 2002 . This challenge, issued to Indiana colleges and universities to raise a $1-to-$1 match for needed academic purposes, provided a motivation for record giving and participation levels at Holy Cross College.
The Endowment’s two previous grants, which offered challenges to trustees, alumni and friends, had a positive impact on Holy Cross College. Encouraged by the successful experiences, President Br. Richard Gilman, CSC, noted, “The Endowment’s matching funds resulted in the erection of Pulte Hall, a stronger endowment, improvements of our campus infrastructure, and enabled us to provide assistance to students desiring to continue their education at Holy Cross.”
Gilman continued, “The earlier Endowment challenges were a high water mark in the College’s fund raising efforts. We look forward now to meeting the newest challenge, as we seek capital funding for a student wellness center on campus.”
