Katherine Cole ’22 is a native of Portland, Oregon, and graduated as a biology major with a sports management and public health minors. After graduation, she plans to become a sports dietician, requiring certification in nutrition along with a master’s degree in dietetics.

“I decided on biology because I really enjoyed it in high school, and I love the challenges it brings. I knew I didn’t want to be a doctor, but initially, I wanted to work in physical therapy or something in sports, so I figured biology would be a good starting point,” said Cole on why she chose this field of study.

“I became interested in Holy Cross for a couple of reasons. First, I have many family friends in South Bend, so I knew I would be able to have some familiar faces around me here. Also, my old high school teacher, Sam Mertz, graduated from here, and he talked very highly of his time here. Then, when I came and visited, my campus tour was so nice and everyone was so friendly. I felt at home my entire time, and I loved it,” noted Cole.

“While being at Holy Cross, I have been student body Vice President, a resident assistant, and a Spes intern. I gravitated to these roles because of my background in leadership skills from high school as well as my natural desire to build community and meet new people,” said Cole. “In addition, I was also a manager for the Notre Dame hockey team. I got into this position because I reached out to the head equipment manager and asked if they needed any help. I love hockey and sports so I thought this would be a great place to start. I worked there my sophomore through senior year, and I loved it.”

“Next year I will be coming back to Holy Cross as an assistant hall director. While doing that I will be taking classes to acquire a nutrition certificate,” said Cole.
