Liturgical Ministries

Holy Cross College Liturgical ChoirLiturgical Choir gives students a chance to express their love for God through song.

It is directed by Mr. Michael Accurso, a PhD student in Sacred Music at the University of Notre Dame.  His direction has increased participation in the choir and has helped to create a joyful and worship-filled musical experience for college liturgies.

The choir practices once a week and immediately before Mass. Cantors may need to practice a bit more. This is worked out on a person by person basis.

If you would like to contribute your talent to the Holy Cross College Liturgical Choir, just stop by the Campus Ministry office or talk to Mr. Michael Accurso or a choir member. We always welcome more voices!

Holy Cross College Liturgical MinistriesThe Mass is not something you merely ‘attend’. It is something in which you participate. Every person is called to contribute to the liturgy in a manner suited to his or her unique talents and temperament. For some students, this means serving in a liturgical ministry at Mass. If you are a baptized and confirmed Catholic, please consider volunteering for one of the following ministries.

The Liturgy of the Word is an essential component of a Catholic Mass. The reader can make or break this experience for the people gathered. Lectors should not only read and pray about the readings well ahead of time, they should also work to develop their public reading ability. A good lector will bring the reading to life for the people, but at the same time will avoid ‘overdoing it’.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion enjoy the great privilege of helping Jesus Christ dispense Himself sacramentally to his people. They whole-heartedly believe in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. Their grooming, dress and comportment should reflect their reverence and joy as they carry out their ministry.

Logistical Support

The work of the Mass may require setting up chairs, moving things, passing out hymnals, or other odd jobs. Every church needs people willing to do these ‘behind the scenes’ jobs. This is a quiet service, but essential to the work at hand.

Choir and Musicians

Love for music is deeply engrained into human nature. Music can transform something ordinary into something extraordinary. A Chapel Choir, prayerful, dependable, and committed to excellence, is of exceptional value to our Catholic faith-family. The choir and musicians contribute in a very unique way to the communal work of the Mass. You can earn academic credit for participating in our choir.
