Grant Kercher headshotHoly Cross College is excited to welcome alumnus Grant Kercher ’19 in the role of Admissions Counselor. His position on campus includes helping students with the admission and application process.

Career path

“I am originally from Goshen, Indiana, and wanted to choose a college that was within an hour radius of my home. I fell in love with Holy Cross the second I stepped onto campus for my first tour. I always say I was born and raised in Goshen, but I feel like I grew up in South Bend. South Bend and Holy Cross made me who I am today,” said the former alum who graduated with a bachelor’s in business and a minor in marketing and sports management.

Upon graduation, he worked with his family’s printing company. The COVID-19 pandemic put his career aspirations on hold and kept him local. In June 2021, he was fortunate to work with fellow alums Matt Sheldon ’19 and Greg Fean ’18 with their company Exclusive Event Experiences.

“Although I was good at my job and good with communicating to clients, it was not the right fit. I found the Admissions Counselor position open on the Holy Cross website one Sunday evening, applied Monday morning, Dr. Griffin called me Monday afternoon for an interview, and I accepted three days later that Friday,” recalls Kercher. “My first day here at Holy Cross was Monday, November 8, on my mom’s birthday, and she said that was the greatest gift I could have ever given her. I would definitely not be here if it wasn’t for the support of my mom, dad, and sister.”

Why Holy Cross College

“I wanted to come back to work for Holy Cross because I truly value this place so much. I want to be able to show it off and have students see how amazing it is for themselves and to continue to grow and build the school to the place that I know it can become,” said Kercher. “What brought me to Holy Cross was simply my love for the school. Many people in my graduating class, and those classes around me, know how much I love this school and was born for a position like this. I want to try and give back to the school that has given me so much.”

Plans on campus

“I would love to be able to make Holy Cross College a sought-after destination. Yes, we have Notre Dame here in South Bend, but I want us to be a place of our own. Not Notre Dame’s little brother, but our own entity, if you will,” notes Kercher. “I want future students to feel at home as I did while they are here, and to really make sure that they are getting the best education and experiences that they can while attending. Everything else is just icing on the cake for me personally.”
