Holy Cross is excited to announce Michael Larkin as the newly appointed Senior Vice President at Holy Cross College. With a majority of Larkin’s professional career spent in Catholic higher education, he looks forward to the opportunity to combine his passion for Catholic education, love for the mission and charism of the Brothers of Holy Cross, and experience in senior-level leadership to help advance the mission of Holy Cross College and the vision of the 5-year strategic plan “With Eyes of Faith.”
During his extensive career, Larkin has initiated, led, and helped close comprehensive fundraising campaigns which raised more than $650 million to build new or renovate existing facilities, generate scholarship support for students, and provide faculty support for new initiatives. Asked to serve a “one-year” term in Development, Larkin went on to serve six years at his alma mater, Loyola School in New York City to begin a career in Catholic education that now spans more than 30 years. Previously the Vice President for University Advancement at St. Edward’s University, which is sponsored by the Moreau Province of the Brothers of Holy Cross, Chief Development Officer and Vice-President for External Affairs at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW), Vice President for Advancement at Carroll College and more, Larkin has specialized in institutional advancement, campus master planning, strategic planning and overall institutional revenue growth. Larkin has also served as a senior Cabinet member to three presidents at four Catholic Colleges and universities, as well as holding supervisory roles in key areas of college operations.
Larkin’s educational career also includes service at Fordham University in New York City (Associate Vice President for Development); Saint Peter’s College in Jersey City, N.J (Vice President for Advancement), Carroll College in Helena, MT (Vice President for Advancement), Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, N.Y (Vice President for University Advancement), the Foundation of UMDNJ (Senior Vice President for Development), and the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX (Chief Development Officer and Vice President for External Affairs). “I am thrilled to have Michael join Holy Cross at this important time in our history,” says Holy Cross President Dr. Marco Clark. “He is a proven and transformative leader and I am confident that with his years of experience and success in Catholic higher education he will be equally impactful at Holy Cross. The position will focus primarily on three areas: strategic initiatives, enrollment, retention, and outcomes, and senior leadership as a member of the senior leadership team. I have witnessed firsthand the impact of Michael’s leadership. As we reinstate this important Senior Vice President position, Michael is the ideal leader to help advance our ambitious plans for the future of Holy Cross College.”
Some of Larkin’s career achievements include two successful comprehensive fundraising campaigns at St. Edward’s, which raised more than $55 million in capital projects, $65 million in endowment, and $35 million in operating support. Others include a successful $20 million capital projects campaign at Carroll College and the development of a comprehensive campus master plan at UIW, which informed a successful $100 million comprehensive fundraising campaign.
Larkin’s position serves to work collaboratively with a cohesive, mission-driven, and forward-moving Senior Leadership Team as well as other administrative members of the College. He will be responsible for the supervision and mentorship of Enrollment, Retention, and Outcomes. Larkin will also work with Student Life and Academics to develop and implement an enrollment and retention plan. He will also provide counsel to Holy Cross’ growing advancement team and have a prominent role in the College’s fundraising. He assumes his position July 1st.
