The inaugural Holy Cross College Library Research Prize, generously funded by the estate of Grace Smith and developed through faculty collaboration with Professors Thomas Spencer, Angel Cortes, and Lori Harding, highlights outstanding student research and creative work that demonstrates meaningful and effective use of library resources. Submissions were reviewed through a fully anonymized online process, with identifying information removed. All papers were evaluated by judges from outside the disciplines represented. Four papers were submitted this year. The $500 first-place award was given to John Paul Hurt for his submission, which included a reflective essay and research paper titled, Unconscious Heretics: Aspects of Indian Cultural and Religious Experience Targeted by the Inquisition in 16th Century New Spain. Thanks to all student participants, as well as to the faculty judges and course instructors who encouraged and supported student submissions.
Stay tuned for the 2027 deadline to compete in the 2026-2027 Library Research Prize.
