Dr. Doris Van Auken has served as a faculty member at Holy Cross College for twenty-five years. Her most significant accomplishment is being designated as the College’s first female full professor. She was among the initial six faculty members to be granted tenure. She also played a key role in the development of the Institutional Review Board, which oversees the College’s research activities.

Dr. Van Auken successfully created the Psychology major and implemented several innovative high-impact teaching practices, including weekend seminars, student participation in international psychology conferences, and most recently, a vertically integrated research team with students. For many years, Dr. Van Auken was the faculty advisor for the Social Concerns Committee, where she assisted students in organizing various initiatives, including the Holy Cross Thanksgiving Food Baskets drive, which has become an annual tradition.
