The late afternoon sun peeked through clouds over Holy Cross College on Thursday as shovels turned soil and a crowd of trustees, students, business leaders, and community members gathered to witness a moment ten years in the making.
With the backdrop of an expanding athletic complex and a soon-to-be-replaced parking lot behind them, Holy Cross broke ground on a new $12 million residence hall—the first new building on campus in a decade and a visible symbol of its ongoing transformation.
“This isn’t just a construction p
roject—it’s a bold step forward,” said Board of Trustees Chair John Gschwind in opening remarks. “We are building not just for today, but for generations of Saints to come. This hall reflects purposeful planning, student voice, and a deep investment in community.”
Set to open in time for the 2026–2027 academic year, the 29,000-square-foot residence hall will house 114 students and feature modern community spaces, study lounges, a chapel, and outdoor gathering areas forming a new residential quad. The project arrives during a period of unprecedented momentum for the College, which recently celebrated the groundbreaking of a new athletic complex just days earlier.
President Dr. Marco Clark reminded attendees of the spiritual foundation beneath the bricks and beams.
“We are not just builders—we are His workers,” Clark said. “This project affirms our belief that the daily rhythm of residential life…is central to student formation. These aren’t just rooms. They are spaces of encounter—where students will grow in faith, friendship, and purpose.”
Clark pointed to a future vision that includes multiple new residence halls and a campus quad alive with student life.
“When these doors open, 114 more Saints will call this campus home,” Clark said. “And what we begin today will shape generations of Saints to come.”
