Leading the Holy Cross Way
An Executive Series with President Marco J. Clark, Ed.D.

Now entering its third year, Leading the Holy Cross Way brings accomplished leaders to Holy Cross College to share the experiences, decisions and principles that have shaped their lives. Hosted by President Marco J. Clark, Ed.D., these conversations explore leadership across business, public service, healthcare, education and the military.
Students, faculty, staff and members of the wider community are invited to join us for an engaging fall series centered on leadership, service, faith and our responsibility to use our gifts for the good of others.
All events take place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in Driscoll Auditorium and are free and open to the public.
Major General Malcolm B. Frost,
U.S. Army Retired

On Patriot Day, Holy Cross College welcomes Major General Malcolm B. Frost, U.S. Army retired, for a timely conversation about leadership, service and resilience.
Frost brings more than 38 years of leadership experience in the U.S. Army and the private sector. A career infantryman, he commanded soldiers at every level, from lieutenant through two-star general, and deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iraq and Afghanistan.
His senior assignments included serving as the Army’s director of public affairs, leading its initial-entry training enterprise and helping guide the Army’s Holistic Health and Fitness initiative. Since retiring from military service, Frost has advised corporate leaders and organizations on leadership development, communications, crisis management, organizational culture and leading through uncertainty.
He remains deeply committed to supporting veterans, families of fallen service members and efforts to improve health and fitness across the United States.
Bethany Hartley

Bethany Hartley serves as president and CEO of the South Bend–Elkhart Regional Partnership, a collaboration of economic development organizations representing 47 communities across northern Indiana and southwest Michigan.
Hartley has nearly two decades of nonprofit leadership experience focused primarily on economic development, entrepreneurship and regional collaboration. She joined the Regional Partnership in 2018 as director of diversity and inclusion and later served as chief strategy officer before becoming president and CEO.
Her career has included leadership positions with RISE, the Boys and Girls Clubs of St. Joseph County, the Family and Children’s Center and the Women’s Business Development Center in Chicago. She has led projects involving organizational transformation, entrepreneurship, digital infrastructure, communications strategy and community outreach.
Hartley earned her MBA from the University of Notre Dame and her bachelor’s degree from Loyola University Chicago. Her honors include recognition among the Indianapolis Business Journal’s 250 Most Influential Leaders in Indiana.
Karl I. Peterson

Karl I. Peterson is a seasoned private equity investor, entrepreneur, philanthropist and business leader with nearly 30 years of experience across industries, asset classes and investment strategies.
During his career with TPG Global, Peterson held several senior leadership roles, including managing partner of TPG Pace, managing partner of TPG Europe and senior partner of TPG Capital. He co-founded and led TPG’s special purpose acquisition company business, raised more than $3 billion in equity and served in leadership roles on numerous corporate boards.
Today, Peterson leads KP Three Capital LLC, overseeing public, private and real estate investments. Throughout his career, he has built teams, guided organizations through growth and change and helped create significant value for companies and investors.
A graduate and longtime supporter of the University of Notre Dame, Peterson brings a global perspective to questions of leadership, strategy, innovation and responsible investment.
He remains deeply committed to supporting veterans, families of fallen service members and efforts to improve health and fitness across the United States.
Dr. Peter M. Tan

Dr. Peter M. Tan is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, healthcare and military leader, educator and board director whose career has brought together clinical care, military service, academic medicine and organizational leadership.
Tan has advised senior military and healthcare officials, led clinical and professional organizations and served in numerous command, governance and educational roles. His experience includes service with the U.S. Army, the Office of the Surgeon General, the United States Military Academy and the Army Dental Corps.
He is the president and CEO of TANARM LLC, executive vice president of the ADVON Foundation and chairman of the Board of Trustees at HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital. He previously served as a Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army and has taught oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Maryland and the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Tan earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and his Doctor of Dental Surgery with honors from Howard University. His honors include induction into the Florida Veterans’ Hall of Fame and the U.S. Veterans Hall of Fame.
Thomas Gryp

A respected leader in financial services, Thomas Gryp has served as president and CEO of Notre Dame Federal Credit Union since 2010, guiding a period of significant innovation and growth.
A South Bend native and University of Notre Dame graduate, Gryp has also been a dedicated supporter of Holy Cross College. His service has included membership on the College’s Board of Trustees and instrumental support of campus development projects.
His leadership reflects a deep commitment to stewardship, community engagement and Catholic values.
