Prof. Dennis Vandenberg was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan, and is a life-long resident of the Michiana area. After graduating from Central Michigan University, he entered the naval service as a cryptologic officer serving in a number of communications-related positions. He retired in 2005 with a master’s degree in systems technology – space systems operations from the Naval Postgraduate School. He then obtained both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in applied mathematics from Indiana University. With a passion for teaching, he worked as an instructor in college-level mathematics, and currently is a full-time Professor of the Practice at Holy Cross College Notre Dame. A proud father, he also has had the unique opportunity to temporarily serve aboard the battleship USS New Jersey, and meet one of the few remaining survivors of the battleship Bismarck.
