Holy Cross College, Notre Dame Establish New Pathway for Student Veterans

Holy Cross College and the University of Notre Dame have established a new partnership creating a pathway for military veterans to begin their college experience at Holy Cross before transferring to Notre Dame.

Through the Veteran Transfer Program, up to five student veterans each year will spend their first year as fully enrolled Holy Cross students, living and learning within the College community while also building connections at Notre Dame.

“Holy Cross is honored to partner with the Office of Military and Veterans’ Affairs at the University of Notre Dame,” Holy Cross College President Dr. Marco J. Clark said. “It is a privilege to walk this journey with our American veterans.”

The agreement was signed by Dr. Michael P. Griffin, provost of Holy Cross College, and Dr. John T. McGreevy, provost of the University of Notre Dame. The program was developed in coordination with Notre Dame’s Office of Military and Veterans Affairs and Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

Participating veterans will be guaranteed housing at Holy Cross and will have a meal plan allowing them to dine at both Holy Cross and Notre Dame as their schedules require. Students will also be able to participate in eligible Notre Dame student organizations and programming through the Office of Military and Veterans Affairs. When required for an intended Notre Dame major and unavailable at Holy Cross, participants may be permitted to take one course per semester at Notre Dame with appropriate approval.

The Veteran Transfer Program is invitation-only. Veterans with fewer than nine transferable college credits who apply for first-year admission to Notre Dame will automatically be considered. Selected students will not need to complete a separate application to Holy Cross.

To guarantee transfer to Notre Dame following their first year, students must earn a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5, receive a grade of B or higher in each Holy Cross course, and remain in good standing with both institutions.

The program is expected to welcome its first cohort in fall 2027.
